The benefits of Jerry’s chosen sport goes beyond medals or accolades. Even more valuable have been life’s lessons: Learning, growing, making lifetime friends and sharing their triumphs and supporting them through hard times, making peace with the changing process of aging, and being appreciative and grateful for each moment of being, whatever he can do in that moment . Having the support and encouragement of his “groupies” has often buoyed him up during harder times.
The future holds an even greater joy for Jerry, now 85 years of age. Just to be able to lift weights, do physical therapy, and practice the shot put weekly is good enough. To compete occasionally is “frosting on the cake” regardless of records or medals.
